HOW TO CREATE A FAMILY COMMAND CENTER


STEP #1- Decide what you want to keep in the command center. Ideas:

  • Schedules and calendars

  • Grocery list and menu for the week

  • Incoming/outgoing mail

  • Mail/paperwork requiring action

  • Keys

  • School Papers

  • Chore lists and home maintenance schedules

  • Invites and announcements


STEP #2- Gather all of the items that will live in the command center.


STEP #3- Decide on where you will have the command center and if you prefer it hidden or visible.

Ideas:

Visible:

  • Side of the fridge

  • Wall

  • Mudroom

  • Desk

Hidden:

  • Inside of a cabinet/pantry door

  • In a cabinet or drawer

STEP #4- Declutter the area and remove everything from the area that you will put the command center


STEP #5- Measure and decide on types of storage needed (Picture above on the right is available at The Container Store)


STEP #6- Map out on a piece of paper the layout


STEP #7- Set up your command center and maintain by weekly cleaning out and filing/tossing to keep organized.
